Gavin Thinks He’s A Visionary Leader

Every office has a Gavin.
You know the type.
Slightly too energetic. Obsessed with “company culture.” Uses words like:
“synergy.”
Unironically.
Gavin is the boss.
Or more specifically: the kind of boss who desperately wants employees to think:
“He’s actually such a great guy.”
Unfortunately…
Gavin discovered LinkedIn motivation culture during lockdown.
And never recovered.
Now every meeting includes:
life lessons
business metaphors
and at least one sentence involving eagles
Nobody knows why.
Gavin genuinely believes:
every problem is a mindset issue
team-building activities fix trauma
and “we’re a family.”
The office disagrees heavily.
Now to be fair… Gavin means well.
Mostly.
He buys birthday cakes. He says good morning. And sometimes he even attempts empathy.
But Gavin has one fatal weakness:
He wants to be relatable.
Which is dangerous for management.
Because every few months Gavin discovers something new and forces the office into it.
Examples include:
wellness mornings
motivational voice notes
cold plunge discussions
fantasy rugby leagues
and “high-performance culture.”
Trevor calls these:
“corporate side quests.”
Still…
despite everything…
the office would probably miss Gavin if he left.
Not emotionally maybe.
But structurally.
Because chaos needs leadership.
And Gavin provides just enough organization to stop the company becoming:
a WhatsApp group
with invoices
and emotional damage.
Which honestly…
it almost already is.
