Every office has an IT guy.
But Trevor isn’t just an IT guy.
Trevor is infrastructure. Trevor is emotional support. Trevor is the final thread holding corporate society together.
And nobody appreciates him.
Trevor arrives every morning at exactly 07:43 AM carrying:
one backpack
one iced coffee
and the emotional burden of 46 unread support tickets
Nobody knows Trevor’s actual job title.
Officially it’s probably something like:
“Systems Support Specialist.”
But realistically?
Trevor fixes everything.
WiFi issues. Printers. Passwords. Teams meetings. Projectors. Broken keyboards. Gavin’s laptop. Kevin’s Bluetooth headphones. Candice’s Canva crashes. And occasionally… human despair.
Trevor has seen things.
Terrible things.
He once watched a manager print 600 blank pages because:
“The computer looked frozen.”
He once spent four hours fixing a boardroom TV only for Gavin to ask:
“Can we make it more HD?”
Trevor did not respond verbally.
Now here’s the important thing about Trevor:
He’s permanently tired.
Not normal tired.
South African corporate tired.
The kind of tired caused by:
loadshedding
Outlook notifications
and hearing:
“Hey quick question…”
17 times per day.
Trevor communicates mainly through:
long sighs
aggressive typing
and staring into middle distance after meetings
But despite his suffering…
the office loves Trevor.
Mostly because everybody knows: if Trevor quits…
the company dies within 48 hours.
You’ll usually find him:
fixing printers nobody respects
eating garage pies sadly
or hiding in the server room for “mental health reasons”
And if Trevor ever says:
“That’s not supposed to happen…”
Run.
Immediately.
